Weber State’s men and women indoor track and field teams, each enjoyed a successful two-day meet at the Mountain States Games on Friday and Saturday at Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
The WSU women took first in three events , led by ALLY DEAN (Sr.-South Ogden, Utah). Dean had a sterling meet capturing the Invitational 200 meter dash in a personal best time of 24.90. That is the ninth best time in WSU women’s indoor track and field history. She came back 20 minutes later to capture the Invitational 400 meters in a career best 55.06. That is the second best time in WSU history. Her teammate, CAMILLE LOTT (Jr.-Kaysville, Utah) ran a personal best of 55.70, finishing second to Dean, and that ties her for sixth on the WSU indoor all-time top ten list.
SARAH CALLISTER (Fr.-Ogden, Utah), running in her first ever collegiate 5,000 meter race, won the event in a time of 17:18.57 which is the sixth best time in WSU school history.
“We had a marvelous two day meet,” said WSU women’s coach Jim Blaisdell. “We had 22 seasonal best performances and we had three new qualifiers for the Conference meet. We now have 17 athletes qualified in 35 events.”
Three other Wildcats had all-time top 10 performances. MICHAELA NORTH (Sr.-Kennewick, Washington) took second in the women’s Pentathlon, scoring a career best 3,436 points. That is the fourth best point total in WSU school history.
JANA COLVIN (Fr.-Harrisville, Utah) ran a personal best of 8.97 in the 60 meter hurdles. That time ties her with teammate, Ally Dean, as the seventh fastest time in school history.
FLOREECE WILLIAMS (So.-North Las Vegas, Nevada) ran a personal best time of 7.73 in the 60 meter dash. That is the sixth best time in WSU school history.
Coach Dan Walker’s men had four three first place finishes. NATE CARTER (Sr.-Roy, Utah) won the open 400 meters in 50.66. BRETT HALES (Jr.-Ogden, Utah) captured the 5,000 meters in 15:01.11. That is the second best time in the Big Sky Conference this season.
MATT WHITE (Fr.-Plain City, Utah) won the Invitational 400 meters in 48.76. It is the first time he has run the event on the collegiate level, and is a personal best time. That is the fourth best time in the Big Sky this season. WHITE ran a personal best time of 6.98 in the trials of the 60 meter dash on Friday but did not run in the finals on Saturday. That is the fourth fastest time in WSU men’s school history. He also finished in the open 200 meters in 22.12. JONEVAN DiSIMONE (Jr.-Seaside, California) captured the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.28
“We had a great meet,” said Walker. “First off, we had nine more Big Sky qualifying marks, two of them in the 200 meters where we really needed it. Second, we had 19 season bests, so we are still improving. We really did a nice job in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. We had three personal bests in the 3,000 meters, two of them by Jace Nye (8:27.37) and Steve Shepherd (8:31.04) who have been in our program for five years. We worked them hard this weekend, but it payed off for us.”
BROCK ROSE (Sr.-North Ogden, Utah), who has been battling injuries and respiratory problems, qualified in the 200 meters in 22.17, as did BRANDEN SHIMADA (RsFr.-Portland, Oregon) who ran 22.13.
ZACH PARRY (So.-Taylorsville, Utah) had the ninth best indoor shot put mark with a personal best toss of 50-01.25) and had a personal best in the 35-Pound Weight Throw at 52-02.00.
