OGDEN - The Big Sky Conference has announced its Volleyball All-Conference team and individual award winners for the 2016 season. Weber State's Megan Thompson was named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team.
Thompson led the Big Sky in blocks this year with 164 total on the year and averaged 1.66 blocks per set. She had four double doubles this year and had 10 or more kills in 14 different matches and had 10 or more blocks in eight different matches. Thompson closed out the year with 246 kills and averaged 2.48 kills per set.
She finished her career as No. 2 in WSU history in Block Assists and Total Blocks.
Thompson earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors once this year with her performance during the Hampton Inn Invitational at Western Illinois. She totaled 32 blocks over three victories, averaging a robust 2.67 per set for the Wildcats. Thompson also contributed 32 kills on an efficient .458 hitting percentage to lead WSU to its best start in school history with a 9-0 record.
The first team was dominated by upper-classmen, including seven seniors. Three first-team setters from 2015 were back on the team this year in Idaho State’s Hayley Farrer, Northern Arizona’s Jensen Barton and Northern Colorado’s Ashley Guthrie. Farrer and Barton each had teammates joining them on the first team including ISU’s Chloe Hirst and NAU’s Lauren Jacobsen.
In a noteworthy theme, five 2015 second-team players moved up to the 2016 first team. UND’s Dooley & Moser, NAU’s Jacobsen, Sac State’s Kennedy Kurtz and Weber State’s Megan Thompson each made the jump to first team this time around. Portland State’s Pati Anae, the league-leader in kills this season, rounded out the first team.
