The Weber State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in their final regular season meet Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin. It was the final meet before the Big Sky Championships.
The WSU women’s team finished 23rd in the championship race, while the Wildcat men’s team took second in the Open race.
The women’s team totaled 588 points to finish 23rd overall in the championship race. The meet included 11 of the top 20 teams in the country. The Wildcats finished two points ahead of fellow Big Sky member Northern Arizona.
Weber State’s top runner once again was senior Hailey Whetten who finished 17th overall, posting a time of 20:34.4 on the 6K course. Whetten has been Weber State’s top runner in each meet this season.
Senior Ellie Child was the next finisher, taking 70th place at 21:06.7 and senior Alice Neville was third at 22:00.5 in 155th place. Candace Sharp was 172nd at 22:14.8 and Paige Dilmore was the fifth runner, posting a time of 22:17.4 to finish 174th overall.
The men’s team finished second in the “B” race, totaling 74 points in the meet. Freshman Dallin Leatham was the top finisher, taking fifth overall with a time of 25:24.9 on the 8K course. Freshman Luca Sinn took ninth place with a time of 25:32.0 and Jordan Cross was 12th at 25:37.3. Senior Jason Kearns took 15th overall at 25:41.1 and freshman Tyson Green was 33rd at 26:30.1.
Weber State now turns its focus to the Big Sky Championships, which will be held Friday, Oct. 28 in Moscow, Idaho.
