Weber State drops home opener to North Dakota

OGDEN - Weber State women's tennis squad took on North Dakota in the first home match of the season. The match was close but the Wildcats fell 4-3 to the Fighting Hawks. 

"The lades fought hard today but came up short against a competitve North Dakota," assistant coach Mark Roberts said. "Today was a close loss but we have to look forward to our next few matches and keep working to improve as a team."

Weber State started the match off strong by capturing the doubles point. In the No. 1 spot Tereza Pilzova and Caitlin Herb defeated Lee and Yunken 6-2. UND then picked up a win in the No. 2 doubles spot, but Emily Tanner and Devi Hasan defeated Hassall and Nakasto 6-4 giving WSU the doubles point advantage. 

In the singles compeition UND picked up a win in the No. 5 spot the Wildcats answered with a win in the No. 2 spot by Pilzova. Pilzova defeated S. Allen Fisher 6-3, 7-5. 

The Fighting Hawks then went on to pick up three more singles victory giving them the four points needed to claim a victory over WSU. 

Herb was the other Wildcat to pick up a singles win in the No. 1 spot defeating Hassall 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(5). 

The Wildcats are now 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State heads to BYU to take on the Cougars tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. before heading to Boise, Idaho next weekend to take on Boise State and Seattle.
