SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Wildcats have found their momentum.
The Weber State University softball team wrapped up the Santa Clara Invitational with a 4-0 win over the host Broncos on Sunday afternoon at Santa Clara Stadium.
The win put the finishing touches on a 4-1 weekend for the Wildcats (5-8-1), who have now won five of their last six games.
Junior right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling picked up her third complete-game win of the weekend, striking out five Broncos and allowing just three hits and no walks. It was also Bohling’s second shutout of the tournament.
The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after a leadoff single by Brinkerhoff, who stole second and home during the inning to make it 1-0, followed by an RBI single by senior designated player Mackenzi Corta that scored Takesha Saltern.
Freshman shortstop Sydney White scored on a bases-loaded illegal pitch in the fourth to make it 3-0, and then doubled to lead off the sixth before scoring on an RBI single from Saltern that made it 4-0.
The Wildcats snagged the final two outs of the game on a 1-4-3 double play, the fourth turned by the Weber State defense during the tournament.
Weber State finished the game with 10 hits against the Broncos, and 45 hits during the five-game weekend that saw the Wildcats outscored their opposition 29-13.
With three of six scheduled non-conference tournaments out of the way, the Wildcats will return to action on Friday at the SpringHill Suites Invitational, hosted by Boise State in Boise, Idaho. The Wildcats will face two more games against Santa Clara, two against CSUN, and host Boise State once.
