Three point efforts lead WSU to 85-75 win over PSU

OGDEN – For the second consecutive match up against Portland State, the Wildcats hit at least 14 three pointers. WSU’s efforts beyond the arc gave them the 85-75victory over the Vikings to give Weber State its fourth consecutive win this season and the fifth consecutive win in the series with PSU.

Weber State started the game with a sweet three ball by Kailie Quinn and for the rest of the quarter the Wildcats followed in suit. WSU went 8-11 from the three in the first quarter to help give the Wildcats a 32-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Weber State started the second quarter off with another three ball by Yarden Danan. WSU had a 17 point lead early in the quarter but went on a four minute scoring drought late in the quarter giving PSU some time to close the deficit. Weber State had a 48-38 lead going into half time.

In the second half WSU continued their hot streak adding seven more made three pointers. WSU dominated the remainder of the game finishing with a final score of 85-75.

Weber State finished the game going 15-33 from beyond the arc for 45 percent. This is the second most three pointers made in school history in a single game. WSU also shot 29-64 from the field and 12-16 from the free throw line.

The Wildcats ended the game scoring 29 points off of Viking turnovers while the Vikings only scored two points off of WSU turnovers.

WSU had six Wildcats score in double figures. Danan and Deeshyra Thomas shared the game high with 16 points each. Danan went 4-8 from beyond the arc and Thomas went 7-14 from the field.

Quinn finished the game with 14 points while Emily Drake and Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman each added 13. The final Wildcat to breach double digits was Dominique Williams who dropped 10.

Portland State’s Sidney Rielly had 32 points against the Wildcats going 8-11 from the field including four three pointers. Rielly also made 12-13 free throws.

PSU shot 50 percent from the field, 40 from the three and 88 from the free throw line. PSU had 18 turnovers, 17 assists, and five steals. The Vikings also out rebounded the Wildcats 38-28.
