OGDEN, Utah – After helping the Wildcats to a perfect weekend, junior right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling was named Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
Bohling was 2-0 with two saves and had a .42 ERA in 16 2/3 innings with 17 strikeouts and just one walk as the Weber State University softball team swept four games at the Highlander Classic, hosted by UC Riverside.
The Salem, Utah-native threw at least one inning in all four games, with two complete-game wins and two saves. She opened the weekend with a season-best eight-strikeout performance against Iona, allowing just five hits and one unearned run, and followed that up by earning her first save in a 7-5 win over UT Martin, throwing the final 1 2/3 innings, where she allowed just one hit and had three strikeouts in facing six batters.
In her second complete game of the weekend, against Maryland, of the Big Ten Conference, Bohling struck out six, while allowing six hits and one earned run without a walk, and earned her second save of the weekend in a 3-2 win over Iona, pitching the final inning, where she needed just 11 pitches to get the final three outs.
Overall this season, Bohling, a 2016 First Team All-Big Sky pitcher, is 7-8 in 18 appearances. She has pitched a team-high 85 innings with 61 strikeouts, and has a 2.55 ERA, the second-best in the Big Sky this season.
The honor is Bohling’s second of the season, and the sixth of her career.
