Weber State’s season will continue. After losing in overtime of the Big Sky Tournament title game, the Wildcat men’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Weber State will play at Cal State Fullerton Thursday night in the first round of the CIT. The game will also be the Riley Wallace Classic. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. PDT (8 p.m. MDT).
The CIT tournament includes 26 teams from across the country with all games played on campus sites. Second round games and opponents will be determined after the first round games are complete. This season all CIT games will be streamed through Facebook Live on the 2017 CIT Facebook page: facebook.com/2017CIT. The semifinals and championship games will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
This is the ninth time in the 11 seasons under head coach Randy Rahe that the Wildcats have advanced to a postseason tournament. It will be Weber State’s third appearance in the CIT. WSU advanced to the second round of the CIT in 2012 and lost in the championship game of the tournament in 2013.
Weber State is 19-13 overall this season and finished third in the Big Sky at 12-6. The Wildcats advanced to the championship game of the Big Sky Tournament in Reno before falling in overtime to No. 1 North Dakota.
WSU has been led this season by senior guard Jeremy Senglin, a two-time All-Big Sky first team selection. Senglin is second in the nation in 3-pointers per game at 3.8 and is fourth in the Big Sky in scoring at 21 points per game. In Saturday’s championship game, he became Weber State’s all-time leading scorer.
Rahe who is the Big Sky’s all-time leader in conference wins. Rahe has guided Weber State to five Big Sky titles in 11 seasons as head coach of the Wildcats.
Cal State Fullerton is 17-14 overall and finished third in the Big West at 10-6. The Titans lost to eventual Big West Tournament champion UC Davis in overtime in the tournament semifinals.
This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two teams. Weber State holds a 4-1 all-time series lead over the Titans with the last game in 2009. WSU last played at Cal State Fullerton in 1988.
