Wildcats head to Big Sky Indoor Championships

Senior Tawnie Moore has the fastest 60-meter hurdles time in the Big Sky this season.

POCATELLO, Idaho – It’s championship time for the Wildcats.

After a bye week for rest and refinement, the Weber State University men’s and women’s track and field teams head to the 2017 Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships this week at Holt Arena.

The championships begin on Thursday with the Heptathlon (11 a.m.) and Pentathlon (11:15 a.m.), before moving into the individual events on Friday, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and continuing into Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Several Wildcats boast top marks in the conference through the regular season, including senior Tawnie Moore, who owns the fastest 60-meter hurdle time this season after running an 8.51 at the Bozeman Running Company Dual Invitational in Bozeman, Mont. on Feb. 2. Moore is the defending indoor 60-meter hurdle champion.

Senior Ellie Child, the 2016 Big Sky Cross Country individual champion, has the second fastest time in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters this year. Child is the defending champion in the 3,000 meters, and finished second in the 5,000 meters last season. Garazi Larrakoetxea has the second-highest mark in the high jump, while Natasha Powell is third in the weight throw.

On the men’s side, Joey Czellecz has the second-fastest 60-meter hurdles time, while Ryan Carlson is fifth.

Justin Herbert has the fifth-best mark in weight throw, and Jordan Cross is sixth in the 5,000 meters and seventh in the 3,000 meters, entering the championship.
