OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University softball team will take a quick step out of Big Sky Conference action on Tuesday afternoon when it takes on in-state rival Utah for a doubleheader.
First pitch between the 19-17 Wildcats and 14-16 Utes is set for 2 p.m. at Wildcat Softball Complex, with a second game to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
The doubleheader, which was originally scheduled for April 2 before being postponed due to unplayable field conditions, will be the first meeting between the two teams since splitting a doubleheader last season in Salt Lake City, with the Utes winning 11-2 in five innings in the first game, and the Wildcats responding with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
Weber State and Utah have faced four common opponents this season, Seattle, Seton Hall, Idaho State and BYU. The Wildcats went 5-2 in those games, defeating the Redhawks twice and dropping two to the Bengals, while the Utes went 4-0 with one win over each.
Utah is coming off a 2-1 series win over Oregon State at Utah Softball Stadium this past weekend.
After today’s doubleheader, the Wildcats will head to Grand Forks, N.D., for the first time for a three-game series with North Dakota. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Friday.
