OGDEN, Utah – Looking to shake off a pair of tough weekends and get ready for a key weekend series, the Weber State University softball team steps out of Big Sky Conference play on Wednesday afternoon to host in-state rival Utah.
The Wildcats and Utes will play a doubleheader at Wildcat Softball Complex, beginning at 2 p.m.
Weber State enters the day with an 18-15 overall record, but has dropped five of its last six games since sweeping a doubleheader from Utah Valley on March 16. Utah is 12-15 overall and coming off a series against top-ranked UCLA over the weekend.
The teams split a doubleheader in Salt Lake City last season, with the Utes winning 11-2 in five innings in the first game, and the Wildcats responding with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
Weber State and Utah have faced three common opponents this season, Seattle, Seton Hall and BYU. The Wildcats went 4-0 in those games, defeating the Redhawks twice, while the Utes went 3-0 with one win over each.
Utah’s last win came last Wednesday at Utah Softball Stadium against Idaho State, who Weber State will face for a three-game Big Sky series, beginning on Friday.
