WSU sees another increase in basketball attendance

For the fourth straight season Weber State saw an increase in fan attendance at men’s basketball games.  The Wildcat men’s basketball program ranked 82nd in the nation in attendance for the 2011-12 season, according to figures just released by the NCAA.  It marked the second straight year WSU has ranked in the top 100 in the country after ranking 93rd in 2011-12. 

Weber State finished the season averaging 6,493 fans per game.  That marked WSU’s highest attendance average since 2003.  The Wildcats averaged 6,627 fans per game in the eight home Big Sky Conference games, also their best since 2003.  A total 103,893 fans attended Wildcat games last season.   

For the fourth straight season Weber State led the Big Sky Conference in attendance.  WSU averaged nearly 2,500 fans more than the next closest school.  The ‘Cats have led the Big Sky in attendance in nine of the last 11 seasons.  

The Wildcats also finished with a higher attendance average than six Pac-12 schools, six WAC schools and five Mountain West schools.  Among all schools with conferences in the western United States, Weber State had the 13th highest attendance average.  The national home game average for all Division I schools was 4,994 fans per game. 

Under  coach Randy Rahe Weber State posted its best ever home record last season, finishing with a perfect 16-0 record at the Dee Events Center.  The ‘Cats finished the year 25-7 overall and were 14-2 in Big Sky Conference play.  For the fourth straight season they advanced to postseason play, advancing to the second round of the Collegeinsider.com Postseason Tournament. 

WSU was led last season by All-American Damian Lillard who finished second in the nation in scoring and was named Big Sky MVP, District MVP and became the first player in Big Sky history to be named to an All-American team.  Lillard was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers.
