Former Weber State standout Joe Collins has signed a free agent contract
with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. Collins is one of
three wide receivers signed by Hamilton this week in preparation for their
season which opens next month.
Collins, a native of Seaside, California, finished his career at Weber
State in 2010 and was named the Weber State Male Athlete of the Year for
2010-11. He was a unanimous selection to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team
in 2010 and earned Third Team All-American honors. That season he played in all
11 games and led the Big Sky and was eighth in the nation in receiving yards per
game at 95.1. He was also tenth in the conference in all-purpose yards. He
finished the season with 61 receptions, the ninth most in WSU single-season
history and had 1,046 receiving yards, the 12th most in WSU single-season
history.
In his three seasons with Weber State Collins played in 27 career games and
had 109 receptions for 1,501 yards and 10 touchdowns. He ranks 15th in school
history in career receiving yards and is 19th in career receptions.
Hamilton’s season in the CFL begins June 13.
