Wildcats to host Utah Valley Tuesday in CIT

The CollegeInisder.com Tournament consists of 32 mid-major teams from across the country.

Weber State’s season will continue as the Wildcats will participate in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.  The Wildcats will host Utah Valley Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events Center in the first round of the tournament.  

This will be Weber State’s first ever appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament which began in 2009.   The tournament includes 32 teams from across the country.  Second round games and opponents will be determined after the first round games are complete.

Weber State sits at 24-6 overall and finished 14-2 in Big Sky Conference action, finishing second in the league standings.  WSU’s 24 wins is tied with Robert Morris for the most wins of any team in the CollegeInsider.com  Tournament. 

Junior Damian Lillard was named USWBA District VIII Player of the Year and Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player.  Lillard ranks second in the nation in scoring at 24.5 points per game and is WSU’s all-time leader in single-season scoring.   

Utah Valley comes into the game with a 20-12 overall record.  They finished 9-1 in the Great West Conference but lost in the semifinals of the conference tournament.  The Wolverines won 13 consecutive games at one point during the season.  They were 1-1 against teams from the Big Sky this season, winning at home against Portland State and losing at league champion Montana.   This will be the first postseason tournament game for Utah Valley since becoming a Division I school. 

Senior guard Isiah Williams leads the Wolverines in scoring at 16.1 points per game. 

The Wolverines are coached by Dick Hunsaker, who graduated from Weber State in 1977 and was a later a WSU assistant coach.  Hunsaker is in his 10th season as head coach at Utah Valley.

The Wildcats and Wolverines have met four times with the season series tied at 2-2.  The two teams last met in December 2005.  Weber State is 2-0 at home against UVU. 

Tickets for Tuesday’s game will go on sale Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Dee Events Center Ticket Office.  Tickets will be $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth (17 and under) and $5.00 for Weber State students.  Contact the WSU Ticket Office at 801-626-8500 or visit WeberStateTickets.com.
