Joel Bass is in his 25th season with Weber State Athletics. In 2011 he was elevated to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Support Services/Head Athletics Trainer.
A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Utah, Bass has been an active force in the better treatment of high school, collegiate and professional athletes.
As a result of his work and dedication, Weber State now offers a four-year degree in Sports Medicine. Bass was the driving force behind the curriculum.
Bass works primarily with the Wildcat football and men’s basketball teams, but also oversees all administrative responsibilities of the athletic training program.
Athletics has always been a part of Bass’ life. The son of a former high school football coach, Bass participated in football, basketball, baseball and track as a teen. He played football at Ricks College, and then transferred to Utah State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Exercise Science, and served as an athletic training student.
He received his Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University in 1988 and then served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Montana State University for three years before coming to Ogden. He and his wife, Beth, are the parents of a daughter, Melissa, and a son, Jason. In October 2011 they welcomed their first grandchild Vincent.
