ELK GROVE, Calif. — The Weber State men's golf team rallied from a poor opening round to earn an 11th place finish at the Sacramento State Intercollegiate tournament on Tuesday at Valley Hi Country Club.
The Wildcats failed to post a sub-80 score in the opening round on Monday morning and sat in last place on the leaderboard after 18 holes played with a score of 323. The team bounced back in the afternoon round, shooting a 305 for an 18-shot improvement. WSU posted another 305 in Tuesday's final round for a three-round total of 933.
Lee Shepherd and Sean Badger each shot 231 to lead the Wildcats, tying for 34th place overall. Shepherd led the second round comeback with an even-par 72, while Badger closed the tournament with a pair of 75's.
Grand Canyon shot 862 to claim the team title, finishing 12 shots ahead of second place CSU-Fullerton. Billy Comeaux led the Antelopes to the title by winning the medalist honors with rounds of 72-69-71 for a four-under-par 212. His teammate Vinnie Murphy tied for second with UC Santa Barbara's Brandon Bauman at 213.
WSU's Boston Watts tied for 42nd overall with a score of 235, while Alex Herzog finished 62nd at 242. Kyler Dearden posted the team's best round over the final 18 holes with a 74 on Tuesday, and finished tied for 66th at 248.
