OGDEN – Weber State took down Sacramento State 66-60 Thursday afternoon to give the Wildcats a three-game winning streak.
Weber State started the game out on a 9-2 lead. Sac State came back however and tied things up at 16-16 going into the second quarter. Sac State outscored WSU 13-11 in the second quarter giving them the 29-27 lead going into half time.
In the third quarter Sac State took their largest lead of the game with a 39-33 score. But a made three ball by Yarden Danan and another by Kailie Quinn just 19 seconds later tied things up at 39-39 with two minutes to go in the third quarter.
WSU pushed through and pulled a one point lead going into the fourth quarter with a 44-43 score. WSU went on a 10-1 run to give them a little wiggle room to finish out the game.
Sac State tried to sneak back into the game bringing the score to 64-60 with just 14 seconds left. Quinn sunk a pair of free throws at the end to give WSU the final score of 66-60.
Weber State held Sacramento State to 22 points below their averaging scoring in the Hornets second to lowest scoring game of the season.
Weber State was led by Deeshyra Thomas who had 13 points. Danan and Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman each had 11 points for the Wildcats. Quinn was the top rebounder for WSU for the third game in a row with her six on the afternoon.
WSU shot 40 percent from the field, 28 percent from the three and 93 percent from the free throw line. WSU had 33 total rebounds on the game with 17 assists, 17 turnovers and seven steals.
Sac State shot 38 percent from the field, only 26 percent from the three and 93 from the free throw line. Sac had 21 points off of Wildcat turnovers.
The Wildcats are now 11-11 overall on the season and advanced to 5-6 in Big Sky Conference play. WSU will host Portland State Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
