OGDEN - The Weber State football team went through its second full scrimmage of spring practice Saturday. The Wildcat offense put up some good numbers in the 150-play scrimmage.
The Wildcat running game had a big day as the 'Cats had five touchdowns on the ground. Senior C.J. Tuckett recorded three touchdowns himself and finished with 17 carries for 112 yards to lead the WSU running attack. Tuckett had a 55-yard touchdown run for the first scoring of the day, then followed up with scoring runs of three and five yards.
"We have had a good session of spring ball and hope to carry some of that momentum over to the fall," Tuckett said.
Sophomore Barrinton Collins had 13 carries for 92 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown run. Josh Booker had 13 carries for 88 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown run.
In the air junior Jordan Adamczyk had another good scrimmage, finishing 22-34 for 343 yards and one touchdown. The passing highlight of the day was when Adamczyk found Erik Walker for a 90-yard completion that set up a rushing touchdown. Walker also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Adamczyk.
Tyler Parson finished 6-11 for 72 yards and had an 11-yard touchdown pass to Chase Nakamura. Breck Lewis was 2-5 for 28 yards passing.
Sophomore Xavian Johnson had three catches for 76 yards and Darchon Taggart recorded four catches for 44 yards. The WSU running backs also combined for over 100 yards receiving.
Trevor Pletcher led the defensive side of the ball with three sacks.
"There were some improvements today but we still need to clean up some things," said new WSU head coach John L. Smith. "Offensively I liked how we were able to move the ball and there were some things we can build on from today. As is always the case in the spring there is still work that needs to be done."
The Wildcats will conduct two more practices next week before concluding spring practice with the annual Purple and White game next Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Stewart Stadium. A chalktalk presented by the Wildcat Club will begin at 4:30, giving fans a chance to hear from Coach Smith and the new Wildcat coaching staff.
