Dan Walker

Dan Walker is in his 32nd season with the Weber State track and field program. In 2007, he was elevated from Associate Head Coach to Head Coach for the men’s program and remained the Associate Head Coach for the women’s program. In 2014, the women’s program was added to his responsibilities, as he was named the Director of Track and Field and is the head coach for both programs.

Under Walker’s leadership, the Wildcat men’s team won the Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2010. He has also guided the men and women to top three finishes in the Big Sky Conference on ten occasions.

While at Weber State, Walker has been the primary coach for the men’s and women’s field events. He has coached athletes who have won three NCAA championships in the high jump. He has also coached athletes who have achieved All-American status in the heptathlon once, the triple jump once, the javelin five times, and the high jump eight times. He has coached Big Sky Conference champions in every field event.

Walker is an Ogden native and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1970. He still holds the Ben Lomond school record in the mile run.

After graduating from high school, he ran track and cross country at Weber State, and graduated in Medical Technology in 1975. He then worked at St. Benedict’s Hospital on Ogden, where he was the Manager of the Chemistry Lab. In 1984, he was hired as a part-time assistant track and field coach at Weber State, were he worked under the direction of Chick Hislop and Jim Blaisdell. In 1988, he was hired as a full time assistant and in 2004, was elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach.

Walker has been married to his wife Elaine for 42 years. They have three children: Rick, Mindy, (married to Tyson Massengale), and Brett, (married to Juliann Durst). Dan and Elaine also have two grandchildren, Hayley and Easton.
